Any Questions?

Please talk to us if you have any questions about the above treatments. We know that the first steps are the hardest to take, and we have prepared a few FAQ’s for you.

What is the difference between white and a silver filling?

A white filling can be matched to the colour of your tooth, giving it a more natural appearance. They also don’t have the same potential environmental or health risk posed by the mercury in amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings can often hide further tooth decay from x-rays; white fillings don’t have this problem. White fillings are also bonded to the tooth to effectively seal the margin whereas amalgam fillings just plug the hole and do not seal the margins.

Why teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a way to change the colour of your teeth for a more aesthetic appearance. It is a safe procedure that needs to be monitored by a dental professional who will advise you and guide you through the process. Your dentist will first need an exam appointment to confirm your teeth and gums are healthy, and then advise you before you start your teeth whitening.

What is Gum Disease (periodontitis) ?

Gum disease, also called periodontitis, is a serious infection that affects the surrounding tissue of your teeth. If untreated gums disease can cause teeth to loosen and eventually lead to tooth loss. It is caused by a build up of plaque on the teeth, plaque is a sticky substance that contains bacteria. Effective brushing, flossing and regular hygiene appointments can help you maintain healthy gums. Some symptoms of gum disease may involve; Swollen gums, Gums that bleed easily, Pus between teeth/gums and Loose teeth.

How can smoking affect oral health?

Most people are aware about the impact smoking has on their health. However, the impact of smoking in oral health is not as widely known. Smoking can lead to tooth staining, gum disease, and more severely mouth cancer. Especially in gum disease, the gums are affected because smoking causes a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream, so the infected gums don't heal. Smoking causes people to have more dental plaque and causes gum disease to get worse more quickly than in non-smokers.

What is the difference between a veneer and a crown?

Veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain (or composite) that’s bonded to the front of your existing tooth. A crown (cap) covers the whole tooth and it is thicker, it can be made out of porcelain fused to metal, all metal or even all porcelain (emax or zirconia crowns). To see whether a veneer or a crown is right for you will depend on the condition of your teeth and what you’re trying to improve.

What is a RCT (Root Canal Treatment) ?

Root canal treatment (endodontic treatment) is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay repeated dental procedures on the tooth or a crack or chip in the tooth. In addition, an injury to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess. The dentist removes the inflamed or infected pulp, carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the root canal, then fills and seals the space. After a root canal treatment you will need a crown or other restoration on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function. After restoration, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth.
